Taylor Ho Bynum: consistency of contrasts

Choosing the cornet as his instrument for its flexible nature, on each of his releases this Boston-bred musician points towards a music with no labels but self-expression, following the lessons of the greats who have come before him. Creator of many ensembles, omnivorous in literature as in music, on his new album Madeleine Dreams, he composes a suite that captures the dreamlike atmosphere of his sister’s novel, but does not forget to pay homage to three of his inspirations: Ellington, Ornette Coleman, and Sun Ra.
