Special Project
From September 10 through 23, I will be on my The Acoustic Bicycle Tour. This is perhaps the most unusual of my idiosyncratic projects: a two-week performance tour of all six New England states, traveling only by bicycle, performing with a different group of musicians each night. I will be performing solo, with some of his working groups, and with ensembles of local musicians, in venues ranging from state parks to art galleries to concert halls. For concert details, check the calendar, and I’ll be updating my blog from the road.

The project celebrates the interconnected nature of the Northeast’s creative arts communities, offers an environmentally friendly touring alternative, and forwards the concept of “local music” similar to the “local food” movement. It also illustrates the connections between creative music and creative thinking about sustainability. I sees a clear analogy between choosing to travel by bike and choosing to pursue a career in creative music: the trip may be slower and more arduous, but it is ultimately more rewarding in its acoustic pleasures. Ultimately, if successful, the New England trip will be the pilot for a longer project, expanding the idea to traverse the West Coast or go cross country in Fall 2011 or Spring 2012. Thanks to all the venues, presenters, and friends who have supported this idea, with a special shout out to the Devil’s Gear Bike Store in New Haven who came on as an early sponsor and got my 20-year old bike working again.
